Bathroom Surface Segmentation

Project overview

Bathroom listing photographs were segmented into individually editable surfaces so tiling, sanitaryware and vanity finishes could be swapped independently.

Bathrooms are the hardest interior class for this kind of work. Almost every surface is either reflective, wet-looking or both, and the rooms are small enough that wide-angle capture distorts most of the frame.

Work performed

• Segmented wall and floor tiling as separate classes, following grout lines at the room edges.
• Traced sanitaryware individually rather than grouping it into one fixture class.
• Cut mirror and glass shower panels as their own regions so reflections stay out of neighbouring masks.
• Followed the true silhouette of curved basins and baths instead of approximating with straight segments.
• Handled chrome fittings, which pick up colour from every surface around them.
• Verified each mask at high zoom before the image was marked complete.

What made it hard

• Reflections in mirrors and glass repeat the room and invite mislabelling.
• Wet-look and high-gloss tiling throws specular highlights across boundaries.
• Small rooms captured wide mean heavy distortion at the frame edges.
• Grout lines disappear into shadow in corners and behind fixtures.
• Chrome fittings have no stable colour of their own to trace against.
• Shower enclosures overlap several classes at once through the glass.

Result

A bathroom segmentation set where tiling, sanitaryware and joinery can each be restyled on their own, with reflective surfaces correctly isolated rather than bled into their neighbours.

Final deliverable

Delivered per-surface polygon masks across the bathroom set with a consistent class palette, reviewed for reflection bleed and edge accuracy.
